Zero-Waste Ladies’ Razor
Seventh Generation Zero-Waste Ladies’ Razor
Let’s toss the idea of disposables.
According to the EPA, Americans contribute 2 billion disposable razors into landfills each year. Plastics find their way into the ecosystem, poisoning land, water, and organisms. Even razors positioned as “green” do not take the whole product lifecycle into account, with components downcycled or unrecyclable. Alternate hair removal methods can be painful or harsh on the skin, such as waxing, epilating, and using depilatory creams. Learning that shaving has majority market share of the hair removal industry, I investigated developments of the razor over the last 100 years to understand the mess of metal and plastic waste. This was accomplished through online research, books on the history of shaving, and collecting and testing vintage razors.
