Creating the experience of a summer shower.
My involvement in the creation of Kohler’s Real Rain™—an overhead shower panel that delivers a natural rainfall experience with 775 concave nozzle—occurred during the product’s advanced development phase as a Global Faucets design intern. My contributions include the initial storytelling of the rain experience, developing the nozzle geometry, and producing functional prototypes of the concept. I am listed as a co-inventor on U.S. Utility Patents US 9,808,811 B2 and US 9,718,068 B2 and U.S. Design Patent US D823,985 S.
The Deluge
The panel is designed with a rain-free section in the middle, where larger holes are blocked off. Water builds up in the reservoir as the user showers. When ready, the user presses the button installed within the shower to release a shampoo-rinsing cloudburst.

The reservoir allows Real Rain™ to conserve water, using only 2.0 gallons per minute, even during the heaviest downpour.

Real Rain was a recipient of a 2017 Red Dot Award in Product Design, 2017 IDEA Silver, and 2018 iF Design Award.
